‘I had no problem hearing I was a bad sinner…but understanding grace, or understanding belovedness, what is that?’
‘Agape’ is the Greek word used in the Bible to describe unconditional, wholehearted love – the type of love that God has for us. ‘Agapetos’ (pronounced ‘ah-gah-pay-toss’) means ‘beloved’.
While developing this website, several people with lived or living experience of eating disorders shared that internalising God’s love was deeply meaningful and healing for them. Experiencing that they were completely known and completely loved by God – regardless of anything that they had or had not done – helped to provide security and address their sense of not being ‘enough’. This was often a gradual, non-linear and ongoing process toward embracing their identity as ‘beloved.’ ‘Agapetos’ was chosen as the name for this website to reflect this hope.
