When You’re Thinking About Your Body

People experiencing some types of eating disorders feel very distressed about their body.

The Bible describes our bodies as God’s good creations, fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps 139:14). You can learn more about how the Christian story understands our bodies here. The material below might also help you to reflect on this.

Knowing about this perspective won’t necessarily make you feel comfortable in your body right away. That’s OK. There are many reasons that you might struggle with your body, and many types of treatment to help. Alongside these, reflecting on this perspective might help to gradually become more at peace with your body.

Scriptures

This video is designed to help you reflect on Scriptures about your body. There is also a PDF listing the Scriptures in the video below. If one or more Scriptures stand out to you, you might want to use this to spend some time reflecting, praying or journaling about these. You might want to consider:

  • What does this passage say about God’s attitude and response to my body?
  • What does this passage say about my senses?
  • How could I treat my body like God does?
